Some websites wrongly claim Pashto names as originating from Urdu or Arabic
Pashto is one of the most oldest language and belongs to eastern Iranian language family. As per many linguistic experts, it is very closer to Avestan language, Bactrain language, Khwarezmian and Sogdian language as all of these are Eastern Iranian languages now extinct.
Pashto :
Zə tā winə́m زۀ تا وينم
Avestan :
Azə̄m θβā vaēnamī
When people search on google some of the most common Pashto names, Urdu and Arabic names websites show up and both of them wrongfully mention it originating from their own language.
For example: Orzala
. Basically consists of two words Or
meaning Fire and Zala
meaning brightness. These are two basic Pashto words.
Urdu is an Indic language, with borrowed words from Iranian languages.
I researched on meaning of “Fire” and “brightness” in Indic languages, meaning of “Fire”
in Urdu is Aag
and brightness is Chamak
.
In Arabic fire is نار
Naar
.
Another word is “Heela” which means “Hope” in Pashto but Urdu websites also claim that name.
Urdu meaning of “Hope” is “Ās اس”
